A commissioner’s term is for a period of five years commencing on November 1st and expiring on October 31st. Each year, the term of one commissioner expires and is filled by appointment of the Mayor, which does not require approval by the Board of Alderman. The function of the Board of Commissioners is to formulate policy for the Housing Authority, which is then administered by the Executive Director. The Executive Director, who is appointed by the Board of Commissioners, administers and directs the day-to-day operations of the Housing Authority.
